India sets 1.31 billion tonnes coal production target for FY 2026-27

India has set a coal production target of 1.31 billion tonnes for fiscal year 2026-27 ending March next year, aiming to strengthen domestic supply, particularly of thermal coal, and reduce import dependence, according to official sources reported by Moneycontrol.

Coal India Limited (CIL), the country's largest state-owned producer, is expected to contribute 1 billion tonnes, which would represent a new fiscal year record if achieved. Captive mines are projected to produce 228 million tonnes, while Singareni Collieries Company Ltd, jointly owned by the Telangana state and the central
