According to Mysteel statistics, as of September 7, 14 automakers had released their electric vehicle (EV) sales data for August 2026. Looking at the overall performance, the majority of automakers achieved month-on-month and year-on-year growth in monthly sales.
In terms of monthly sales volume, BYD, SAIC Motor, and Geely Auto ranked in the top three, with sales of 440,300 units, 190,800 units, and 175,900 units, respectively.
On a month-on-month basis, 10 automakers recorded growth, with Changan Auto showing a relatively prominent increase. On a year-on-year basis, 12 automakers achieved growth, among which Leapmotor posted the largest increase of 80.72%.
In terms of cumulative performance, 8 automakers registered year-on-year growth, with Leapmotor, GAC Group, and NIO ranking as the top three. Although some automakers performed well on a year-on-year basis in August, their cumulative sales from January to August still experienced slight declines compared to the same period last year, primarily due to the low-base effect in the prior period.
