Summer power demand drives Japan's July coal imports up 26.5% MoM

According to trade data released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan imported 14.87 million tonnes of coal in July, marking a 5.4% on-year decline but a 26.5% on-month increase. Australia remained Japan's dominant coal supplier, while imports from Russia remained limited.

Thermal coal accounted for 59.3% of July's total, at 8.82 million tonnes – down 9.1% on year but up 23.3% on month. Australia remained Japan's largest thermal coal supplier, shipping 6.92 million tonnes, or nearly 80% of the country's total thermal coal imports. The on-month increase of Japan's thermal coal
