Tata Steel ceases loss-ridden BF at Port Talbot plant

Indian steel conglomerate Tata Steel announced on July 4 that it has ceased operations of No.5 blast furnace (BF) at its Port Talbot steelworks in UK and will proceed with its reconstruction plan there, despite concerns arising with the Labour Party's substantial victory in the parliamentary election on the same day.

Following the last production of liquid iron on July 4, 2024, Tata Steel promptly began the safe decommissioning of the No.5 BF and associated facilities, according to the announcement. "All those who have been involved in operating and maintaining No.5 BF since it started operations in 1959 should take a
